Alpha Lewis Signs has been making signs for Melbourne businesses since 1969. Signee is their direct-to-customer range: nine pre-designed signs, each with its own name and personality, built with the same materials and finish as their commercial work. Jaffle designed and built Signee's custom Shopify theme and set up the store from the ground up. At its heart is a bespoke artwork editor that lets customers design their sign right on the product page.

Signee's branding and its cast of mascots were created by EKS Designs. Jaffle brought that identity online and built the platform behind it.

What we built.

A theme with character

A custom Shopify theme designed and built from scratch around EKS's branding, letting the mascots and the playful tone carry the whole site.

Signs with names

Walter, Flossy, Winnie, Stanley and the rest each get their own product page with personality, specs and sizing, so picking a sign feels less like reading a catalogue.

Full store setup

Products, collections, payments, digital wallets and free shipping Australia-wide, all configured and ready to sell from launch.

Design it on the actual sign

Customers upload their artwork and see it on a photo of the real sign. They can move it, resize it and recolour it live to any print colour, with a tab for each side on multi-sided signs.

Straight into Shopify

On add to cart, the artwork goes directly into Shopify Files. Each order includes a preview link that redraws exactly what the customer saw, so staff can check it at a glance and customers can reopen their design to make changes.

Managed from Shopify Admin

Sign templates and colours live as Shopify metaobjects, so the Signee team can add new signs and colours without touching code.

Light, fast and secure

The theme is built with Liquid sections and Tailwind, and the editor runs on plain JavaScript custom elements with no framework weighing it down. PDF and Illustrator files render right in the browser. Anything that needs real access to the store goes through a small Netlify service. The browser gets permission to upload and sends files straight to Shopify, so big artwork files never pass through a middleman.

Signee launched with a fully custom storefront that matches the personality of the brand, and an editor that takes the guesswork out of custom signage. Customers see exactly what they're buying before they pay, and the Alpha Lewis team gets production-ready artwork with every order.
